AAHA stands for “American Animal Hospital Association.”
The AAHA was founded in 1933 for the sole purpose of creating a respected accreditation program for American veterinary hospitals. It remains the only organization that provides accreditation for animal hospitals in the United States and Canada.
Accreditation is mandatory for human hospitals, but the process is strictly voluntary for vet hospitals. For this reason, only about 12% of animal hospitals have completed the process and earned accreditation. Those that have have proven their commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care. Becoming accredited requires being evaluated on more than 900 standards encompassing everything from patient care to customer service. Facilities must be re-evaluated regularly to maintain accreditation.
